TO7 Technology Park and the European Commission: A Strategic Digital Partnership Takes Shape

A representative of the Directorate-General for International Partnerships of the European Commission paid an official visit to the TO7 Technology Park, marking the opening of a new era of cooperation between Djibouti and the European Union.

On the afternoon of Thursday, 8 May 2026, the Djibouti Technology Park welcomed a high-level delegation from the Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA) of the European Commission — the institution responsible for strengthening strategic ties between the European Union and its partners across the globe. This visit, conducted as part of a regional mission to the Horn of Africa, reflects Brussels’ growing interest in the digital development of the Republic of Djibouti.

The delegation was given a tour of the Park’s facilities, with particular attention to its Cable Landing Station — a strategic asset that positions Djibouti as an indispensable hub along the world’s major digital corridors. This site stands as one of the most critical installations on the African continent for the transit of intercontinental data.

A landmark milestone is now on the horizon: the imminent arrival of the Google Raman submarine cable, a project of global significance that will substantially enhance the capacity and resilience of connections linking Africa, Asia and Europe through Djibouti.

This next-generation cable, backed by one of the world’s most influential players in the digital industry, further confirms Djibouti’s pivotal role in the region’s digital infrastructure architecture. For the Technology Park, its arrival represents a major opportunity to attract new investors, develop high-value-added services, and accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

Beyond the facility tour, discussions centred on a broad range of institutional cooperation opportunities between the Technology Park and the European Commission, including capacity-building programmes and the development of partnerships across the digital sector. These rich and forward-looking exchanges lay the groundwork for a lasting and mutually beneficial collaboration, in the service of Djibouti’s development.

This meeting reflects a broader vision: that of a Djibouti fully integrated into the global digital economy, underpinned by world-class connectivity infrastructure and the confidence placed in it by its international partners.
